If
you are aged 12 - 25 years, then STREETWIZE COMMUNICATIONS is for you.
Streetwize creates resources
that can help you make decisions and choices about issues in life that
may affect you.
Issues concerned with your health, like depression, getting a job, drug
and alcohol use and the law.
Information has been provided to young people via comics, animated cartoons,
posters, postcards and pamphlets. These can be found at youth centres,
refuges, schools and youth clubs.
The YOUTHWIZE website has been designed and developed
by
young people for young people. The development team included 12 young
people aged between 15 and 18 years from all over New South Wales.
The two main issues on YOUTHWIZE are the KEEP
SAFE sexual harassment campaign and TO THE MAX
– Information on debt and managing your money. Both sections were
developed by young people on the 2003 and 2004 Give IT a Go ‘ program.
'Give IT
A Go' Participants - 2003
The 'Youthwize' site has been
designed and developed by young people, for young people. The development
team included 12 young people aged between 15 -18 from all over New South
Wales. Team members included Kellie Boston, Scott Carpenter, Anthony Jordan,
Nathan (Shinji) Elliott, Craig Whitney, Luke Smith, Ebanee Jones, Dale
Murray, Jack Kramme, Sarah McInroy, Aeryn Murray and Lisha Feng. They
developed the site as their major project for the 2003 ‘give IT a go’
program.
'Give IT a go' is a program
run by the Department of Community Services, Create and CSC to provide
young people in care with experience in the IT industry.
What they say about the program:
| Kellie
Boston, 16 |
"The
Give IT a Go program to me was a great experience. I met great people,
learnt new skills and as hard as we all worked we had a great time.
We as a team completed a web site for Streetwize and as a team had
the satisfaction of a completed task we all did together with the
help of CSC staff". |
| Aeryn Murray, 15 |
"Give It a Go has
been good for me because I learnt about project planning and management.
The program is great because it is more practical than school and
you learn about a whole range of things that would help me in the
future". |
| Scott Carpenter, 18 |
"I got to meet new
people and share some great times whilst learning about the whole
IT industry". |
| Dale Murray, 15 |
"Thanks
to 'Give IT a go' we were able to go to great places, learn lots
of new things and made lots of new friends. We experienced the real
life environment of working in IT, a rapidly changing industry. Without
'Give IT a Go' I would not have had the fantastic opportunity to do
all these things. I hope that other young people are given the opportunity
to do the things we did." |
"Streetwize Communications
are very proud to have been invited to take part in the 'Give IT A Go'
program. The team have been professional and have responded creatively.
We hope many young people enjoy the Youthwize web site and find it useful.
We intend to add more about the 'Keep Safe' campaign in the future."
Liz Skelton,
General Manager, Streetwize Communications.
