Streetwize Communications has been recognised by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission (HREOC) as a leader in the provision of communication services for young people, Indigenous communities and ‘hard to reach' groups, at the 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards ceremony. Receiving a high commendation in the Community Award section, Streetwize were acknowledged alongside individuals and organisations in the categories of Law, Community, Arts Non-Fiction, Print Media, Television, Radio and Human Rights. Nominees represented disability and Indigenous rights, race discrimination, refugees and asylum seekers, gay rights, legal advocacy, young people, migration, law reform, rights for sex workers, child abuse and a range of community work. “To be highly commended for the Community Award is truly an honour”, said Streetwize General Manager, Jo Taylor. “The other nominees and award winners are accomplishing outstanding work in the community, and it is inspiring for Streetwize to be recognised and valued by HREOC in this way”. The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission President John von Doussa QC delivered his annual Human Rights Day address at a luncheon ceremony in Sydney on Friday 9 th December, where the winners of the 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards were announced.
