Some Personal Stories

Party

My name is Seth, I am 18 years old and one time I was at a party and I was the only guy left.

With about eleven other women who slept over, when we got up I was in my boxer shorts and all of a sudden I got comments like "SHOW US YOUR ARSE". One girl in particular was especially trashy- she kept grabbing me, she bit me on the arse and she kept on groping me it made me feel really uncomfortable. I went to get my jeans back on and I got comments like "oh no keep your clothes off".

Before this happened Seth believed that things like that didn’t happen to guys. The girls intimidated him and he responded by getting his jeans back on because he felt really uncomfortable. Just because Seth is male doesn’t mean that women can make sexual suggestions and things like that. Sexual harassment can happen to both males and female although most of the time it happens to women.

SMS

Hi my name is Annabelle. One weekend my girlfriend and I were camping and I got a SMS message saying ‘I can see what you’re wearing’. Then they called up and said what we were wearing. This made us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe so we decided since we did not know who was doing it we packed up and went home.

Annabelle and her friend got really freaked out by the SMS message she received. They thought that because the person who sent the SMS knew exactly what they were wearing, that the person may have been close by or had seen them during the day. They felt that leaving the camping site was the best way to stay safe.

Drunken

Hi my name is Jodi, I have a full- time job working in a bar where I am exposed to sexual gestures regularly. One night a man came over to me at the bar and started saying inappropriate things about me. I just gave him his drink and then moved on to serve another customer, thinking he would go away and sit down, but he was yelling more things out to me and trying to grope me across the bar, I had to call the bouncer to come and tell him to leave.

Jodi works in an environment where sexual harassment may happen all the time. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s right. No one should have to put up with sexual harassment regardless of how often they experience it.

Drink Spike

My name is Scarlet; I’ve just turned 18. I was at a bar with my friends drinking and decided to dance. When I came back, I sat down and finished my drink. A guy was chatting to me. Eventually he asked me if I wanted to go outside for a cigarette. I was starting to feel weird and thought getting some fresh air was a good idea. When I got outside I was feeling dizzy and next thing I knew the guy was forcing himself onto me. It’s just as well my friend Marc came out to look for me and pushed the guy off me. The next day I rang a local sexual assault service to talk to someone about what happened.

Scarlet was taken advantage of BIG TIME! What this guy did was wrong and very illegal. Scarlet was lucky that her friend Marc came to check on her, which helped to keep her safe. Make sure you watch out for your girlfriends.
